City Schools of Decatur Ranks First in State for 2025 SAT Scores

DECATUR, GA — Today, the City Schools of Decatur (CSD) announced that the Decatur High School graduating class of 2025 earned a mean SAT score of 1181, outpacing the metro and national averages and placing CSD first in the state for SAT scores.

According to recent data released by the Georgia Department of Education, this score represents a 12-point mean increase overall from CSD's previous year, including a 5-point rise in evidence-based reading and writing and a 7-point increase in math. A total of 73% of seniors at DHS took the SAT in 2025.


"The consistent improvement in academic success of students graduating from Decatur High School is an honor that belongs to the whole CSD community," said Superintendent Dr. Gyimah Whitaker. "Teachers, staff, families, and the graduates' own hard work have all contributed to the district's excellence in college readiness."


The Georgia Department of Education reports Georgia public school students outperformed their counterparts in the nation's public schools on the SAT for the eighth year in a row – specifically, Georgia public school students recorded a mean score of 1029, 33 points higher than the national average for public school students.
