FY21 Budget & Millage Hearing Notice
NOTICE OF PROPERTY TAX INCREASE AND TAXPAYER BILL OF RIGHTS HEARINGS
At a special called meeting on June 16, 2020, The Board of Education of the City of Decatur tentatively adopted a millage rate which will remain the same as the Fiscal Year 2020 millage rate of 20.25 mills; however, due to property reassessments, this will represent an average increase of 3.13% in property taxes.
All concerned citizens were invited to the public hearing on this tax increase which was held virtually. The public hearing on this tax increase was held on Tuesday, July 14, 2020, at 6:15 p.m. The hearing was recorded and a link to that recording can be found below.
This tentative increase will result in a millage rate of 20.25 mills, an increase of 0.614 mills over the rollback millage. The rollback millage rate is calculated to produce the same total revenue on the current year’s digest that last year’s millage rate would have produced had no reassessments occurred. Without this tentative tax increase, the rollback millage rate will be no more than 19.636 mills. The proposed tax increase for a home with a fair market value of $400,000 is approximately $123 and the proposed tax increase for nonhomestead property with a fair market value of $475,000 is approximately $146.
