Book Fair & Book Drive 2/25-3/1

F.AVE Book Fair begins this week!
Parents, your students will have an opportunity this week to come preview our wonderful book fair, provided to us by Little Shop of Stories. After our winter break, the book fair will be open to you and your students to make purchases! It will be in the F.AVE media center and will be open Monday-Thursday from 7:20-3:30, during both Night of Expressions from 5:30-7:30, and Friday from 7:20-10:00.
We do still need a few volunteers, especially during our Night of Expressions evenings (our busiest time). If you are a 4th grade parent, maybe you could volunteer on 5th grade NOE and vice versa. Please consider signing up to volunteer
2nd Annual Hughes-Spalding Children's Hospital Book Drive
During our book fair, we are running a charity book drive for CHOA's Hughes-Spalding Children's Hospital Library. Students can purchase an extra book and donate it. You may also donate books you buy elsewhere, but they must be new books since they are going to sick kids. For every book a student donates, they will receive a ticket. Names will be drawn to win autographed books and popular titles from the book fair on Friday, March 1st!
The librarian at Hughes-Spalding wrote to let us know how impactful our book drive was last year. Let's make a difference again this year!
"The donations you gave to the hospital have a huge role in the early days of establish our literacy program and spreading the word to our families that they could come to our library. Now, most of our patients know that when they come to talk with me in the library, they are going to find THE book; the one just for them, And, that keeps them coming back again and again. On average, I am having approx.. 200 literacy interactions a month, and a lot of them are children who didn’t even own a book and now have started to fill a small shelf with wonderful books. When they know there will be titles that are new and interesting and relevant to their age and experiences, they get excited. The love of reading is spreading quickly, but our resources can still be slim; especially for books that appeal to children that didn’t know how much they loved to read until they discover the just right book."
