Statement from the City Schools of Decatur Board of Education
Equal Educational Opportunities
Decatur, GA (2017) - The Board is committed to ensuring that all students feel safe, supported, and valued. Our Equal Educational Opportunities policy has included protections related to gender identity for over a decade, and our support for that is unchanged. We support the Superintendent’s instructions to staff regarding transgender students. We also recognize that there are members of our community with questions and privacy concerns that need to be addressed.
Over the next several months, we will be participating in community events offering learning opportunities in this area, we will be gathering input from the community on our policy, and we will be reviewing our current policy to consider potential changes in order to further our goal of ensuring that all students feel safe, supported, and valued.
We support our transgender students, staff, and community members and look forward to more clearly articulating that support in our policies.
