FY21 Budget & Millage Hearing Notice

At a special called meeting on June 16, 2020, The Board of Education of the City of Decatur will tentatively adopt a millage rate which will remain the same as the Fiscal Year 2020 millage rate of 20.25 mills; however, due to property reassessments, this will represent an average increase of 3.13% in property taxes.

All concerned citizens are invited to the public hearing on this tax increase to be held virtually. The link to join the meeting can be found on the City Schools of Decatur website announcement section at The hearing will take place on Tuesday, June 16, 2020, at 12:00 p.m. and 3:45 p.m.

An additional public hearing on this tax increase will be on Tuesday, July 14, 2020, at 6:15 p.m. Please check the City of Schools of Decatur website at for the location of the meeting.

This tentative increase will result in a millage rate of 20.25 mills, an increase of 0.614 mills over the rollback millage. The rollback millage rate is calculated to produce the same total revenue on the current year’s digest that last year’s millage rate would have produced had no reassessments occurred. Without this tentative tax increase, the rollback millage rate will be no more than 19.636 mills. The proposed tax increase for a home with a fair market value of $400,000 is approximately $123 and the proposed tax increase for nonhomestead property with a fair market value of $475,000 is approximately $146.
