Mathematics is a discipline that has lifelong implications and applications. A comprehensive mathematics education is essential to achieve our goal of cultivating and nurturing critical thinkers who are ethical and inspired to make the world a better place.
- We believe that students become mathematically proficient when they develop both conceptual understanding and procedural fluency.
- We believe all students should be engaged in rigorous mathematics instruction.
- We believe that students should have agency in their mathematical learning.
- We believe that students should leave City Schools of Decatur with mathematical instruction that has prepared them for future coursework and/or careers.
- We believe that quality mathematics instruction is engaging, promotes productive struggle, includes opportunities for meaningful connections, is interactive, promotes a growth mindset, includes purposeful differentiation, and that students should have the opportunity to experience the joy of mathematics.

Goals of the CSD Math

Goal 1
We will broaden the purposes of learning mathematics by developing a comprehensive, cohesive mathematics curriculum path Birth-12.

Goal 2
We will create equitable structures in mathematics by examining our policies and programs to ensure all students in City Schools of Decatur have opportunities to continuously grow in mathematics.

Goal 3
We will implement equitable mathematics instruction by developing and implementing a professional learning plan that supports teacher efficacy in utilizing mathematics teaching practices focused on equity and conceptually sound mathematical reasoning.

Goal 4
We will develop deep mathematical understanding in our students by utilizing summative/formative assessment to drive instruction and make data-based decisions about mathematical readiness in order to ensure all students have the mathematical experiences needed to graduate from high school ready to succeed in their post-secondary life/school/career.
