Early Intervention Program

The Early Intervention Program is intended for elementary students who are academically behind in reading and/or mathematics. Students who qualify for this program receive targeted and evidence-based interventions for specific skills so they can obtain grade-level expectations in the shortest possible time.

Qualifiers for EIP include:

  • Standardized assessment scores below the 30th percentile
  • Georgia Milestones Level 1: Beginning Learner score
  • Georgia Milestones Reading Level 2 with Below Level Status

Program Delivery

City Schools of Decatur primarily uses the augmented (push-in) and pull-out models for EIP delivery. In an augmented model, an EIP teacher pushes into the general education classroom to provide targeted interventions to students who have qualified for the program. In a pull-out model, students leave their general education classroom to go to another room in the school to receive interventions provided by the EIP teacher.

Exit Criteria

EIP is intended to be a temporary program, and once students have met their academic goal, students are exited from the program.
