Weapons Screening
City Schools of Decatur began a weapons screening initiative at the middle school and high school at the beginning of FY26. Students, families, vendors, and visitors entering these facilities undergo a non-intrusive scan, using a system akin to those implemented in other Atlanta area school districts, as well as at the Georgia Aquarium and various arenas and concert venues.
The following Q&A is offered to enhance transparency within our school community regarding the reasons behind this system's deployment and how it will contribute to maintaining safe school operations.
