Special Announcements

  • CSD Meal Service 2021 (Updated 3/3/2021)

We are excited to announce that CSD's School Nutrition Department will be offering FREE breakfast and lunch to ALL our students through the end of the 2020-2021 school year!

Meals can be received by our in-person K-12 students as they exit their building or picked up at one of our 4 CSD TakeOutSpot locations for our virtual students. Starting Monday 3/8 we will offer a new variety of options for meal pick-ups for students. Please read below to fill out any required forms and see more details.

All children under the age of 18 (or under the age of 21 for youth with special needs) may participate in this program. Students will receive 5 breakfasts and 5 lunches per week. Children do not have to be CSD students to participate. We ask that non-CSD children accompany their parents/guardians when picking up meals to ensure that we are following USDA guidelines for distribution.  We are so thrilled to be able to offer this service to our community!

    • Updates on Meals for Virtual Siblings: We are continuing to allow in-person siblings to take home meals for their virtual siblings as they exit the building. This program change was made based on requests from our community stakeholders and our department wanting to better address the needs of our virtual siblings. NOTE: Virtual students who need vegetarian meals OR have special dietary needs are still required to pick up meals at a CSD TakeOutSpot. This is for the health & safety of our virtual students and to lessen the risk of confusion for our in-person students. Please DO NOT tell your in-person student to take extra meals home without first filling out our required google form. If you do not fill out this form then our department has no way of knowing what schols to send extra meals to!

      Form for Virtual Siblings

    • Vegetarian and Special Diets: Please fill out the form below to help us predict the demand for vegetarian meals and special diets. Our department has been provided the total number of students at each school site, however, not all of these students will want vegetarian meals or won't have special dietary needs. We want to be able to provide meals for ALL students. Both vegetarian meals and special diet meals will be located at the front office of all of our CSD buildings. Some buildings may follow different procedures, please contact your AP or AA for more details. Please complete the form below to read more information. See the "Special Diets" tab underneath our "Menus" section for more CSD food service policies.

Form for Vegetarian Meals and for Special Diet Meals

    • No Order Form Necessary for In-Person OR Virtual Meal Pick-ups: *Please note this does not apply if your student is a virtual sibling who is picking up meals via their in-person sibling OR if your student is vegetarian/has a special dietary need. See the sections above for those students.* We are prepared with the number of students that will be in all our buildings each day. Our goal is to provide these daily meals to all our in-person students, even if they choose not to pick up meals when they are not in school according to the schedule below. We are not asking for any order forms for meals without considerations (also known as the "regular" menu!) for K-12 in-person students. Please encourage your student to take a meal when they are in-person learning, as every meal given helps financially support our program. Please be patient with us as we adjust our meal service numbers over the next few weeks.

    • Meal Pick-Up Schedule for Middle & High School Students: Our 6-12 in-person students are returning in groups that will attend school on Mondays/Tuesdays and Thursdays/Fridays. We will provide daily take home meals on the days they are in-person learning, and we will offer meal pick-ups for the days they are virtually learning. Please see the schedule below to identify your student's schedule and how to know what to expect.

    • In-Person Elementary School Students: We are continuing to offer daily take home meals for all K-5 in-person learning students. Please see the section above called "Updates on Meals for Virtual Siblings" to fill out our form to ensure extra meals will be sent to the correct school site. Also see the "Vegetarians and Special Diets" section if needed. Parents/guardians please encourage your student to take a meal no matter what, as it truly does help our program for our students to utilize this meal service.

    • Updates for Virtual Elementary School Students: Starting Monday 3/8 we will offer daily meal pick-ups for K-5 students at Fifth Avenue and Talley Street from 11:40 AM - 12:15 PM. We are happy to be reopening these TakeOutSpot locations!

    • Pick-up Locations and Time Frames: Meals can be picked up at one of our 4 CSD TakeOutSpot locations. Our locations at Fifth Avenue and Talley Street will be open daily from 11:40 AM - 12:15 PM. Our locations at Renfroe Middle School and Decatur High School will be open on Mondays/Wednesdays/Fridays, with RMS serving from 12:15 PM - 1:00 PM and DHS serving from 12:45 PM - 1:45 PM. See our "Menus" tab for maps and directions.

    • Pick-up ProcessWe would like to thank you in advance for helping us minimize the spread of COVID-19. To support us in our efforts, we ask that you wear a mask while picking up your meals. Also, in order to be sure that we are following USDA accountability guidelines, only parents/ guardians can pick-up meals for their students.

    • Learning Pod Students: Students who are staying in pods after in-person learning instruction ends will also be given meals like all the other students. They will be given time to safely unmask and eat in their pod groups. Please contact your child's school site for more information on the learning pods.

    • Summer Meal Program: The CSD School Nutrition department is currently following a program called Seamless Summer Option, which is supported by the USDA. As we transition to this new program, all students will be provided BOTH breakfast and lunch meals. We will not be allowing students to opt-out for breakfast. We encourage you to try our breakfast as it's an important part of a healthy diet! We will still allow children to opt-out of taking milk. Providing both breakfast & lunch to our community ensures adequate nutrition and access for all.

    • Thank you for your patience: We thank you for your feedback and support of our school nutrition program! To submit questions or feedback email meals@csdecatur.net.

A reminder from CSD Nutrition: The Free and Reduced-Price Meal Application must be filled out each school year. (Even if you filled one out in the spring, you need to fill out a new one for the coming school year.) The online application for 2020-21 is now available in the parent portal at https://campus.csdecatur.org/campus/portal/parents/decatur.jsp. You only need to complete one application per household.  Note that those eligible for free and reduced-price meals may qualify for other types of public assistance or services available during this pandemic.

    SPECIAL DIETARY NEEDS:
Please note that if you have a special dietary need, you must email sblack@csdecatur.net to see if any accommodations can be made. The forms for that are located under the "Special Diets" section of the "Menus" tab.

To find information on refunds and payments, please visit our "Payments" tab.

School Nutrition Program

  • The School Nutrition Program contributes to a successful academic experience and encourages a lifetime of healthy eating by serving Decatur students nutritious, appealing, high-quality, affordable meals every day. Both breakfast and lunch are available to students at all schools.

Our school system participates in the National School Lunch Program and offers free or reduced-price meals to students who are eligible. Free and reduced meal applications are sent home with all students at the beginning of each school year. Parents are asked to fill out applications and return them to the school office. Only one application needs to be filled out for all members of a family. Applications must be turned in every year. The school nutrition office approves applications based on need and guidelines set up by the federal government. You can pick up an application for free or reduced-price meals at your child’s school or at the City Schools of Decatur Central Office.
