Ms. Chanell Huff-Cox

Chanell Huff-Cox is a 1990 graduate of Spelman College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Georgia State University in 1995. Her career as a Registered Nurse began in the private sector as a staff nurse in Labor and Delivery at South Fulton Medical Center. Following a desire to work in public health to explore health disparities in underserved communities, Chanell shifted gears to work as a Public Health Nurse at the Fulton County Department of Health and Wellness. Her primary focus in this role was disease and illness prevention, education, advocacy, and health maintenance. Currently, she serves as a School Nurse at Clairemont Elementary School with City Schools of Decatur.  At Clairemont, she promotes student success by providing health care through assessment, intervention and follow up. She addresses the physical, mental, emotional and social health needs of students and supports their achievement in the learning process.

Chanell is the chair of the school Equity Team, developed out of a need to address the achievement gap and disproportionality in discipline practices among black and white students in City Schools of Decatur. The team commits to providing professional development, educating students and leading caretakers in the school toward fighting against racism in all its forms, examining personal prejudices and executing City Schools of Decatur’s Equity Action Plan. Lastly, Chanell is a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant.  In this capacity, she is certified to consult on a variety of cases ranging from medical and nursing malpractice, toxic tort and environmental cases to product liability, worker’s compensation, workplace injury, and criminal cases.

She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc, the National Association of School Nurses and the National Alliance of Certified Legal Nurse Consultants.

Chanell is honored and excited to serve as Clairemont’s fulltime school nurse and looks forward to working with parents and staff to ensure that students are healthy, safe and ready to learn. Please feel free to contact Nurse Cox at 404 370-4450 or  chuff-cox@csdecatur.net
