CL School Counseling Department Mission
We will build the foundation for all children to be their best, achieve their dreams, and make the world a better place.
Our mission is to work with and inspire students to grow and develop their ability to learn, think, and inquire through meaningful, motivating, and rewarding learning experiences supported by highly qualified, caring adults in a safe, supportive, and inviting environment.
Who are School Counselors?
School counselors are certified/licensed educators who improve student success for ALL students by implementing a comprehensive school counseling program.
What do School Counselors do?
Help all students: • apply academic achievement strategies • manage emotions and apply interpersonal skills • plan for postsecondary options (higher education, military, work force).
School Counselors deliver lessons in the classroom, work with students on an individual basis and facilitate small groups.
Why are School Counselors in Elementary Schools?
The elementary school years set the foundation for developing the knowledge, attitudes and skills necessary for children to become healthy, competent and confident learners. Elementary school counselors have an impact on these years by implementing a school counseling program and collaborating with school staff, parents and the community to create a safe and respectful learning environment. By providing education, prevention, early identification and intervention, elementary school counselors help their students achieve academic success, develop an understanding of career opportunities and develop social/ emotional skills in response to issues they face. - ASCA
