Duane Sprull

Duane Sprull has been an administrator in the City Schools of Decatur since 2007. He has previously served at Decatur Career Academy and as CTAE Director. Mr. Sprull is a graduate of Fayetteville State University with a Bachelor's degree in Business Education. He has a Masters's degree in Instructional Technology from Troy State University and an Educational Specialist Degree from Jacksonville State University. He is a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. with the Sigma Eta Lambda Chapter. Mr. Sprull has coached baseball at Beacon Hill Middle School and youth baseball and basketball teams for Decatur Active Living. Before coming to City Schools of Decatur, Mr. Sprull worked in teaching and educational leadership positions in North Carolina and the DeKalb County School District. Mr. Sprull is committed to the City Schools of Decatur and ensuring all students at Decatur High School have college and career opportunities upon graduation. He respects the traditions of Decatur and will aim to increase school spirit and the visibility of DHS in the community.

Jessica Sturm Barber

This is Ms. Sturm Barber's 6th year as an Assistant Principal at Decatur High School. Her background is in Special Education and she has taught several different subjects throughout her teaching career. She attended the University of Missouri - MIZZOU-RAH! - for her undergrad studies. Her education continued at Georgia State University where she received her Masters in Urban Teacher Leadership & Specialist degree in Education Leadership. Ms. Sturm Barber says that her favorite part about her job is seeing the growth in students from Freshman year to when they walk across the stage at graduation. Ms. Sturm Barber loves walking on the beltline and going to brunch with her husband and daughter.

Kevin Champion

This is Mr. Champion's 3rd year as Administrator at Decatur High School. Prior to this, Mr. Champion was a math teacher at DHS for 7 years. Mr. Champion is a bulldog at heart, with degrees from UGA and Mississippi State. Ms. Champion's favorite part about his job so far is getting to make positive connections with students throughout the day.  Mr. Champion loves to fill his nights and weekends with quality time with his wife and two kids.

Wes Hatfield

Wes Hatfield graduated from Decatur High School in 1999 and returned to DHS to teach chemistry and physics in 2006.  He's also been an instructional coach, interim principal, soccer coach, and lacrosse coach at DHS.  He's currently an assistant principal and assistant coach for the Flag Football team.

Ms. Tosh Irby-Zaleski

Mrs. Zaleski is new to Decatur High School but not new to education. Before this, Mrs. Zaleski worked in education for over 20 years in public, charter, and alternative schools at all levels. She has held teaching and educational leadership positions in Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. Mrs. Zaleski holds a Bachelor's degree from North Carolina A&T State University and a Master's in Education Administration from Grand Canyon University. Since college, Mrs. Zaleski has been a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and was initiated into the Alpha Phi Chapter at North Carolina A&T.  Mrs. Zaleski believes that the best education occurs in a school composed of students, teachers, and families drawn from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds, cultures, races, and religions. Mrs. Zaleski and her husband are both educators, and they have two children and a Yorkiepoo named Pluto. Away from work, Mrs. Zaleski spends time with her family and participates in community service projects frequently with her sorority.

Jennifer Jones

This is Ms. Jones' 2nd year as Administrator at Decatur High School. Prior to this, Ms. Jones was a science teacher for 19 years. Ms. Jones earned her Masters in the Art of Teaching degree from Mercer University and a Specialist in Educational Leadership from GCSU.  Ms. Jones's favorite part of her work is building long-lasting positive rapport with teachers and students and being a part of their growth.  Ms. Jones spends her free time with her son at family activities and attending sporting events at DHS.

Karina Green

Karina Green is the DHS Advanced Placement & International Baccalaureate Coordinator. She has 16 years of experience in public education, serves as the IBGA Career-related Programme Vice-President, and is an IBEN Programme Leader (conducting IB World School evaluations throughout North and South America). Her background is in Mathematics Education and she has taught every level of high school mathematics coursework and served as an Educational Program Specialist for 8 years concurrently in the Mathematics & Science Graduate School Program at the University of Georgia. She taught mathematics at North Oconee High School (2007-2009), Charles R. Drew High School (2009-2014), Decatur High School (2014-2017), North Springs Charter High School (2017-2020), and returned to Decatur High School in 2020. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics from the University of Florida and a Master’s & Educational Specialist degree in Mathematics Education from the University of Georgia with Gifted In-Field and Teacher Support Specialist Certifications. She is a proud member of Theta Nu Xi Multicultural Sorority, Inc. (Alpha Alpha Chapter). Ms. Green has served as an AP Reader, written content for College Board AP Calculus AB & BC Examinations, and presented at various conferences about Curriculum Design, Teacher Development & Support, Project-Based Learning, and GACE Certification & Course Design.

Jessica Miller

Jessica Steele Miller is entering her 2nd year as the Instructional Coach for Decatur High School and her 10th year in public education. Before her transition to Instructional Coaching, she taught mathematics at the middle and high school levels both in City Schools of Decatur and Morgan County Charter Schools. She received a Bachelors of Science in Mathematics Education from the University of Georgia and a Master of Education in Mathematics Education from Georgia State University. Ms. Miller's favorite thing about Instructional Coaching at Decatur High School is helping to build a positive community for teachers to support each other, resulting in high-quality instructional design and implementation for students.

Terra Smiley

Ms. Smiley began her education career in 2001, teaching computer applications, entrepreneurship, and CISCO Networking Systems courses at Cobb County’s Osborne High School. Later moving to DeKalb County, Ms. Smiley served in various roles, including a Business Education teacher, CTAE department chair, Smaller Learning Communities Site Coordinator, and new teacher mentor.  She is most proud of her work with students as the lead advisor of the school’s Future Business Leaders of America career-tech student organization.  During this time, Ms. Smiley began her intentional work within the community, building a network of industry partners who dedicated their time, expertise, and resources to ensure that her students from south DeKalb County were prepared and positioned to succeed well beyond the classroom. Since 2015, Ms. Smiley has served the Decatur High School community as the Work Based Learning and Youth Apprenticeship Coordinator, facilitating students' appropriate placement in high-quality internships aligned with their desired career path.  She finds joy in identifying opportunities for students to explore, experience, and EARN course credit, career credentials, and cash!!! She graduated from Savannah State University with a degree in Business Management, later earning a Master’s Degree in Instruction from Central Michigan University and her Educational Specialist Degree (EdS) from Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, TN.

Rodney Thomas

Rodney Thomas has been working for CSD since 2005.  Mr. Thomas started as Dean of Students at Glennwood Academy. He also served as Dean of Students and Assistant Principal at F.AVE.  Mr. Thomas became Athletics and Activities Director for CSD in 2017.  He graduated from Druid Hills High School and attended Georgia State University on a soccer scholarship.  Mr. Thomas received his BS degree in Sociology from St. Leo University and his M.Ed. in Leadership from Kennesaw State University.
