City Schools of Decatur Board of Education

The City Schools of Decatur Board of Education consists of five elected members. Two members represent District 1—one from Post A and one from Post B—while two members represent District 2, one from Post A and one from Post B.  Additionally, one member is elected to serve as a member-at-large. A chairperson and a vice-chairperson are selected by the board each January. The superintendent of schools acts as the board's secretary.

The primary role of the Board of Education is to establish goals and policies that align with state requirements and reflect the community's needs. The board follows established norms to fulfill its responsibilities to City Schools of Decatur's students, parents, and staff.

Board of Education Meetings provide a platform for the board to conduct official business to enhance student achievement and improve organizational effectiveness. All meetings comply with the Open Meetings Law and local policies. Typically, board meetings are scheduled for the second Tuesday of each month, with exceptions during months that include school breaks and holidays.

Board Retreats offer opportunities for the board to have more in-depth analysis of data, discussions, and relevant information. These retreats occur quarterly and are open to the public.

Community Meetings are held in the fall, winter, and spring to promote two-way communication between the Board of Education and the community regarding vision, values, and outcomes. These meetings are designed to foster transparency and allow community members to observe the school system's operations.
