Degrees and Certifications:
Music has always provided joy, creativity, expressiveness, and beauty to my life and I love sharing that with my students at Oakhurst!
I earned my Bachelor’s of Music Education degree from Capital University and my Master of Music Education degree at Georgia State. I am certified as a Music Rhapsody instructor and have completed Orff Level 1.
I taught kindergarten through 8th grade music in Dayton, Ohio for two years then left teaching, working in banking then as a stay-at-home mom. After a little over a decade, I returned to teaching in CSD and have never looked back!
I’ve been teaching in Decatur for 30 years (!!) – the first eight as a paraprofessional, the last twenty-two as a music educator. When I began, music teachers in Decatur traveled from school to school, so I have taught music at all seven elementary schools (College Heights and Fifth Ave were once K-5 schools). I’ve been a full-time, happy Oakhurst Owl since fall 2004.
I enjoy walking outside, spending time with family, cooking, tending to my spiritual side, and making music. My current musical passion is playing taiko in a local performing group. My family is my husband (also a musician) and two sons, both of whom attended CSD schools from elementary school through graduation. One is a now a mechanical engineer (Georgia Tech), the other is a visual artist (Abilene Christian).
I’m excited to be starting a new year of musical exploration and growth for both me and my Oakhurst crew!
