Dr. Karla Zisook
We are pleased to announce that Ms. Karla Zisook will be joining our College Heights community as our Instructional Coach. This is Karla’s fifth year as a parent of a child in College Heights! She is in her 16th year of teaching. She has taught 1st-5th grades in charter, private, and public schools. Most recently, Karla has taught fourth and fifth grade gifted students at F.AVE. She has taught in Brooklyn, Phoenix, Atlanta, and Decatur. She graduated from Barnard College, Columbia University with a degree in sociology and a teaching certification in early childhood. Karla quickly realized she loved teaching and went to Hunter College where she completed her M.S.Ed. in literacy, birth-grade 6. She returned to grad school at Georgia State for a Ph.D. in language and literacy. Her dissertation focused on teacher professional development and she still teaches courses in literacy at GSU. The Zisooks have lived in Decatur for the last ten years. Her children are Zoe (7) and Max (4) and attend Clairemont and College Heights, respectively.
