Decatur High School

Dedicated to excellence in education

Orchestra Overview

  • Decatur High School is part of the City Schools of Decatur school system and there are approximately 1,600 students enrolled.  Founded in 2020, the City Schools of Decatur Orchestra began as a 50-person orchestra program under the direction of Dr. Heston McCranie. Dr. McCranie continued to grow the program teaching both the middle and high school students, and in 2023 Decatur High School opened it's own program at the high school and that is when Mrs. Rosie Riquelme Antunez joined the CSD team by leading the high school orchestra. The Decatur Orchestra program is dedicated and committed to the growth of string orchestra education and performances throughout the metro Atlanta community. The Decatur High School Orchestra has individuals that also participate in the All-State Full and String Orchestras, Metropolitan Youth Symphony Orchestra, Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra, and the Emory Youth Symphony.
