CSD Community: Below is an important update on the food services for students offered during our closure.
The School Nutrition Department will provide all students the option to pick up two meals a day at Decatur High School beginning Wednesday, March 18th. This will allow our staff time to get the necessary food deliveries to begin this service. Our goal is to make sure all of our students continue to have access to food during the extended school closure. These meals will be a cold breakfast and a cold lunch offered in a grab and go setting. The program is open to all City Schools of Decatur students. We are unable to extend this meal service to siblings who are not CSD students, parents/guardians, or the general public. Meals will be available for pickup daily 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM. Students may only pick up two meals (one breakfast and one lunch) per day and may not purchase additional meals. The CSD student must be present to pick up their meals. All meal prices will remain the same as a typical school day and all approved free and reduced lunch applications will be honored. It is unclear whether this is something our students will take advantage of; we will evaluate this program throughout our closure to determine if participation is high enough to continue or require modifications.
How to get to DHS cafeteria: Please enter through the back driveway where the buses drop off and pick up. You will be located next to the intersection of Commerce Drive & Robin Street, NOT North McDonough Street. You will walk up the back driveway towards the glass doors/wall of the DHS cafeteria, directly next to the DHS stadium. You will see signs posted about maintaining social distance, and nutrition staff will greet you with further instructions upon arrival. We are sincerely grateful for all the community support for this food service operation!
School Nutrition Program
The School Nutrition Program contributes to a successful academic experience and encourages a lifetime of healthy eating by serving Decatur students nutritious, appealing, high-quality, affordable meals every day. Both breakfast and lunch are available to students at all schools.
Our school system participates in the National School Lunch Program and offers free or reduced-price meals to students who are eligible. Free and reduced meal applications are sent home with all students at the beginning of each school year. Parents are asked to fill out applications and return them to the school office. Only one application needs to be filled out for all members of a family. Applications must be turned in every year. The school nutrition office approves applications based on need and guidelines set up by the federal government. You can pick up an application for free or reduced-price meals at your child’s school or at the City Schools of Decatur Central Office.
