Opening 2020 Questions and Answers

  • Disclaimer: The information we are presenting is accurate as of 8/4/20. As we have seen over the past few weeks, things can change rapidly.  We will continue to update and modify this plan as conditions change.

    • What is the new start day for students?
      • The first day of school for students is August 17, 2020.

    • Will face coverings be required for students?
      • Yes, all students (K-12) will be required to wear face coverings for in-person instructional plans in quadrants 1, 2, and 4.

    • Will athletics and extracurricular activities take place?
      • At this time, all in-person athletics and extracurriculars have been suspended. 

    • What happens if there is a positive or presumptive case during the in-person instructional plan?
      • The school and district will follow protocols informed by current guidance from the Department of Public Health, the Georgia Department of Education, and other local agencies.  

    • Will Meet and Greet happen virtually?
      • All teacher Meet and Greet events will be held virtually. Please look for information from your child’s school for details.

    • Where can I find more information?
    • Will meals be served during virtual learning?
      • Yes, meals will be available to students during virtual learning. The district and schools will communicate the process soon. 

    • Will ECLC and Frasier Center be open for in-person 0-3 tuition services?
      • At this time, our 0-3 programs are closed. We will continue to monitor the situation and make changes as needed.
    • Will Pre-K follow the same instructional plan as K-12?
      • Yes. The PreK program will follow the same instructional plan as the K-12 schools. 

    • What is the first day of school for Pre-K students?
      • PreK students will begin school on August 17.

    • What will the hybrid options look like?
      • Feedback from the parent survey and emails to the opening 2020 email have given us several additional options to consider, and we will be reviewing these and making a final decision on hybrid options in the upcoming weeks.

    • How will bathrooms be kept clean and ensure physical distancing while students are using restrooms?
      • Restrooms will be kept on a strict cleaning rotation, and students will be instructed to skip sinks if another student is using a sink.

    • Will lockers be used when students in the building? 
      • If we are in Quadrant 2 or 4, we will not use lockers.  We do not have enough information to decide if lockers will be used when we are operating in Quadrant 1.

    • If I select the full virtual option once CSD moves to a Quadrant 1, 2, or 4, can my child still participate in school-sponsored clubs and athletics?
      • The district Athletic and Activity Director will issue guidance regarding student eligibility in athletics and activities regardless of the instructional setting the parent selects.

    • How do I get assistance if I have to go to work and I cannot send my child to school?
      • We are collaborating with community partners to figure out ways we can support parents in this situation.
