Accelerated Reader (AR) is a computerized supplementary reading program that provides guided reading instruction to students in grades K–12. Clairemont Elementary School (CES) will use this program as a primary resource. This resource aims to improve students’ reading skills through reading practice and by providing frequent feedback on students’ progress to teachers and parents. The Accelerated Reader program allows students to select and read a book based on their area of interest and reading level, and afterwards they can take a quiz which checks for understanding. Upon completion of a book, students take a computerized quiz based on the book’s content and vocabulary. Quiz performance allows teachers to monitor student progress and identify those students who may need additional reading assistance. CES encourages reading and we want all of our students to reach the goal of reading at least 20 minutes a night at home. Accelerated Reader will be used as an instructional program. Multiple incentives will be provided to the students when they have reached an Accelerated Reader goal. For more information about this computerized reading program please visit this link Accelerated Reader. Our school site for Accelerated Reader and STAR can be accessed here: Renaissance Learning
