Degrees and Certifications:
I went into teaching because I love seeing the world through the curious, excited eyes of my students. I have been teaching for over 20 years. In addition to 3rd grade, I've taught special education and English language learners. I especially love overhearing thoughtful conversations between students about everything from the characters in books we read to how to make writing more vivid to the different ways to solve a math problem. Some of my favorite kids' books are: The Mighty Miss Malone by Christopher Paul Curtis,The Summer My Father Was Ten by Pat Brisson, and Amber Was Brave, Essie Was Smart by Vera B. Williams. I have a particular interest in how schools can better serve students who have experienced trauma. I also love practicing mindfulness with students so that they can feel empowered to better focus and to cope with stress and difficulties. When I am not teaching, you can find me playing with my own kids Kieva and Ezra, walking in the woods, salsa dancing with my husband Trey, reading, or talking about books.
