IB Career-related Programme (CP)

    The IB Career-related Programme (CP) is designed for students interested in pursuing a career-related education in the final two years at Decatur High School. It provides students with an excellent foundation to support their further studies, as well as ensure their preparedness for success in the workforce. For additional information about the IB CP please click here.

     

    The CP enables students to:

     

    • follow their chosen education and career pathways in life
    • combine academic subjects with their personal and professional interests and skills
    • engage in learning that makes a positive difference to their community
    • think critically and creatively
    • communicate clearly and effectively in a variety of situations
    • effectively work independently and in collaboration with others
    • consider new perspectives and other points of view
    • develop greater self-confidence and self-awareness
    • demonstrate high levels of resilience, flexibility and agility of mind
    • be internationally-minded and globally aware
    • apply their knowledge to real-world scenarios and situations

    The IB Career-related Programme Requirements

     

    The CP Core Requirements

     

    • Personal and Professional Skills Course (90 hours)
    • Service Learning (50 hours)
    • Reflective Project
    • Language Development (50 hours)

     

    The Decatur Career Academy CP Requirements

     

    • Pathway Completion
    • Pass the End of Pathway Assessment
    • Work-based Learning (162 hours)

     

    The IB Diploma Course Requirements

     

    Students must also score three or higher (external grading) on two IB Diploma level courses from six subject areas:

     

    • Language acquisition (World Languages)
    • Studies in language and literature (World Literature)
    • Individuals and societies (Social Studies)
    • Sciences
    • Mathematics
    • The arts (Fine Arts)

      

    A complete list of IB Diploma level courses offered at Decatur High School can be found at the DHS Counseling website. Courses will be identified by IB to begin the course name and many are offered at the standard (SL) and higher (HL) level.
