Dr. Edwards' Performance Goals


Goal 1-A:  Succession Plan Development

Purpose:


To create a succession plan to identify potential openings, time frames and qualified candidates for upcoming leadership positions.
Strategies:


Develop a form/survey by which to request information from existing staff members such as Central Office Administrators, Principals, Deans, Assistant Principals, Instructional Coaches, Athletic Director, Career/Technical Director. This form will be developed by the Superintendent and collected privately by the Superintendent
  •    Survey form will be distributed and returned to the Superintendent
  •    Review of the information and development of a schematic to share with the Board
  •    Host interview Session with Key Leaders to determine:
  • ID of teachers who are qualified and interested in becoming administrators in the future either at the CO or the school level
  • Pull names of individuals currently holding Leadership certificates to counter check the receipt of names provided by existing staff
  • Allow opportunities for employees to self select and submit their names
  • Host interviews with existing teachers interested in leadership to determine :  interest, qualifications, previous experience or training.

Goal 1-B:  Develop a Leadership Training Program

Purpose:


Develop a Leadership Training Program on-site for potentially interested staff wishing consideration for future administrative positions

Strategies:


  • Host meeting to determine interest
  • Gather data related to each candidate
  • Develop an application form and process to be admitted to the Leadership cohort
  • Administer Principal Insight Tool
  • Develop Program with experts in the higher learning arena to conduct the sessions
  • Notify successful candidates of acceptance and details of training modules
  • Develop content or work on a contract with a provider such as GLISSI or SREB
  • Include  on-site leaders to discuss key areas necessary for leadership candidates.

Goal 2:  Development of Mutually Agreed Upon High School Target

Purpose:


Ensure High School Goals are rigorous for a high school which is one of the top in the nation.
Strategies:


  • Representatives to pose the issue and solicit input
  • Meet with high school staff to conduct brainstorming session for possible data not in use or to determine any data points currently reported which should be eliminated
  • Develop a committee made up of staff members and SLT representatives to determine factors to be included and future targets
  • Hire HS expert to review work
  • Hold a work session with the Board to discuss findings
  • Review with school faculty and SLT
  • Provide recommendations to the Board
Evidence:


Final Report to Include: Summary of Process, Meeting Agendas, Participants, Outside Expert’s Opinions, Final Targets and Information for the Purpose of Reporting to the Board, School Personnel and the Public

Goal 3: Closing the Achievement Gap

Purpose:


Ensure that the system continue to work toward raising the performance of African American students and reporting results on widely reported tests.  Continue to focus on closing the achievement gap specifically in the area of mathematics

Strategies:


  • All Principals will review existing results for the 2008-2009 school year with the Superintendent.
  • School Improvement plans will include a goal specifically related to closing the achievement gap or raising math performance of African American students.
  • School Principals will share their data with the SLTs and their school faculties.
  • Test data will be reviewed by teams of grade level teachers and individual teachers.
  • Academic Improvement Plans will be written for all students who have not met expectations.
  • Additional staff or math tutors will be obtained to assist students by providing math supplemental time during the day or after school.
  • The math materials at the K-5 levelwill be reviewed with a recommendation to the Superintendent for the purchase of materials to augment the existing math program.
  • Additional SAT prep classes will be held for students at DHS.
Evidence:


  • GHSGT in the area of mathematics will show no more than a 10 point range between the performance of white students vs. African American students.
  • The math achievement gap, as measured by the averaging of student achievement results at the 4th, 6th and 9th grade will decrease from 29.33% to 25%.
  • GHSGT results will show the school performing in the top 25% of high schools in the areas of math pass and pass plus.
  • Clairemont’s Achievement Gap in math will decrease from 25 points to 22 points.
  • Winnona Park’s Achievement Gap in math will decrease from 33 points to 30 points.
  • Oakhurst’s Achievement Gap in math will remain below 15.
  • Glennwood’s Achievement Gap in math will decrease from 28 to 25.
  • Renfroe Middle School’s Achievement Gap in math will decrease from 26 to 23.
  • The % of African American Students meeting their growth targets as evidenced by the MAP data will improve at each school by 3% - The current results are: DHS 52.5%; RMS 65.4%; Glennwood 64%;Clairemont 61.9%; Oakhurst 61.8%; Winnona Park  50.9%
  • SAT math results for African American students will increase from  423  to  428.
The Board needs to determine how many of the evidence targets must be met in order to determine if the Superintendent has been successful in this goal.


Goal 4: Ensure Better Communications with our City Partners

Purpose:


The Superintendent will create an action plan for ongoing communication with the city leaders. 

The action plan will assist in the development of structures to address common areas of interest; such as annexation, zoning related to school needs and the possible joint use of facilities/ services.
Strategies:


  • The Superintendent will communicate with the City Manager by electronic means, phone or in person two times per month.
  • The Superintendent will share the Board booklets with the City Manager in a timely manner.
  • The Superintendent will attend City Commission Meetings as requested.
  • The Superintendent will work cooperatively with the City Manager to develop a plan for a shared maintenance facility for the future.
  • The Superintendent will provide aquarterly report to the board of discussions/interactions with the City Manager.
  • A formal request will be submitted inrelation to future annexation or develop issues where by the superintendent or member of the staff will be included in the discussion and proposed decisions in a timely manner.
  • The school system will continue to find ways to work cooperatively on audits, building projects and funding options.

Documentation of Superintendent’s work in relation to this goal will be provided in the Superintendent’s reports on a quarterly basis.
